Programs

The UP Center programs serve as the essence of who we are and what we do. The UP Center provides the following programs to the community:

  • Support Group Meetings: Gatherings for members within the community dealing with issues specific to the LGBTQA community such as coming out, same-sex parenting, living with HIV, and more.
  • Education Workshops/Presentation: Workshops and guest lectures on issues directly impacting the LGBTQA community including how to adopt as a same-sex couple, financial planning, diet/nutrition, career planning, and more.
  • Community Health Programs: The UP Center partners with local organizations to provide members of the LGBTQA community necessary health screenings and education such as full STD screenings, safe sex workshops, and support for finding a LGBTQA-friendly physician combined with strategies for coming out to your doctor.
  • Speakers’ Bureau: A community outreach program that sends trained members from The UP Center into the community to discuss issues pertaining to LGBTQA persons. Training topics include diversity/sensitivity training, crisis response, issues in K-12 schools, and organizational policy to name a few.
  • Resource Library: A digital and physical library of resources for community members and other organizations to utilize including books, multimedia, Web links, and more.
  • Youth Programming: The UP Center provides a structured, safe environment for youth to gather for support and social events. Volunteers charged with supervising youth events are required to complete a background check with fingerprinting.
  • Social Programming: The UP Center also provides social opportunities for the LGBTQA community to gather in a safe, fun environment in order to relax and enjoy each other’s company.
