Faithfully fighting against injustices happens in so many ways. Rev. Jason Carson Wilson, a same-gender loving Black United Church of Christ minister and policy advocate, has found himself lying in the middle of Chicago street as part of #BlackLivesMatter protest. Wilson would also find himself standing alongside homeless LGBTQIA youth in front of Chicago’s Thompson Center, speaking out against Gov. Bruce Rauner’s draconian budget cuts. Since then, he’s spoken out against discrimination and violence against LGBTQIA people at the United Nations, while denouncing attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and pass the 2017 tax bill. All of that activism began with sharing editorials with his elementary school principal and sending letters to the editor to the Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette as a kid. Wilson will discuss how his call to provide a prophetic presence has shaped his life and how it’s cemented his commitment to social justice ministry.

All are welcome, and it is FREE. The Illinois Interfaith Conference is hosted by the Illinois Interfaith Challenge Initiative, a partnership between Interfaith in Action (RSO), Muslim Student Association (RSO), the University of Illinois Diversity & Social Justice Education, University Housing Social Justice & Leadership Education, the University YMCA, and Illini Hillel/Cohen Center for Jewish Life. The conference is funded in part by Student Cultural Programming Fee. Follow us on Facebook to receive updates on the Illinois Interfaith Conference 2018.
