Sign up to help with the Pride Fest Peace Team! What is it? The Peace Team is a group of volunteers who get expert training in violence de-escalation and bystander intervention in order to help keep Pride Fest events safe for everyone. Because of the origins of the Pride Movement, and because queer and BIPOC communities have a history of trauma around over-policing, we choose to not include uniformed police in our Pride Fest programming. But safety remains paramount and is something we take very seriously. So instead, we train people in tools and techniques that work world-wide, even in the most violent and tense places like Gaza and the West Bank in Israel, the Mexican/American border, Black Lives Matter protests and marches, post-sporting event riots, and more.
To learn more about the organization we work and train with, download this information sheet. Cost: FREE if you sign up for a Pride Fest volunteer shift. This expert training costs $65 per person. But Uniting Pride will cover these costs for anyone willing to donate some time to help keep our programs safe. We are planning to deploy Peace Teams at the “We Are Here” Queer BIPOC Block Party on Sat, Sept 24th, 1-4pm, and the CU Pride Fest Parade and Fair on Sat, Oct 1st, 11am-4pm. If you can give some time to either or both of these events, you can join this training free of charge. |
When: The Peace Team training is an 8 hour program will take place on Sat & Sun, Sept 17th & 18th, 12-4pm each day. Attendees must go to both days of training. This is powerful work. And so the training is long and intense. In order to keep Peace Team members safe, and the community safe when the Peace Team are deployed, being present for the entire 2-day 8-hour training is required.
Where: Trainings are held on Zoom so you may attend from the comfort of your own home.
