VOLUNTEER FOR PRIDE FEST
The CU Pride Fest is a massive undertaking! But Uniting Pride is a tiny non-profit organization with just a few people on staff. The only reason this event has been able to be so successful over the years and grow into the 2nd largest Pride event in the state of Illinois, is because of the incredibly community that shows up to works shifts as volunteers. While we're still finalizing details for specific shifts for this year, last year we had nearly 150 shifts where we needed help! We're so grateful to this community for stepping up like this!
First up: The Peace Team
Uniting Pride is deeply committed to the safety and security of everyone who participates in our programs.
To serve this, staff regularly attend sessions with the White House, FBI, Homeland Security, and private organizations who specialize in the safety and security needs of the LGBTQ+ community. We take specializes trainings, and learn and stay informed in a variety of ways, so you all can relax and have a lovely time!
But we need some help, please and thank you!
We will be bringing the Peace Team back once again for Pride Fest 2024 - could you help? For 3 years now, the Peace Team has ensured we're taken care of, while not feeling over-policed in a way that typically results in our community feeling less safe.
This team is a group of volunteers who get expert training in violence de-escalation and bystander intervention and is one of the most important volunteer roles we have throughout this program. This year, we will have our Peace Team present at the Youth & Family party and the Pride Fest Beat in Downtown Champaign on Friday, and the Parade and Fair on Saturday. Next up: Standard Volunteering
Interested in more of the typical ways to volunteer? Help us set up or tear down of smaller events, sit at an information booth and help answer questions or sell merchandise, help us execute the parade or fair, and more! We're still working on exact shift details but you can sign up here to be on the email list that will get notified as soon as we have that ready. And then you can be amongst the first to choose your days, times, and types of work. Click here:
Lastly, help us spread the word!
We never get enough volunteers so helping us share information really does make a difference! Please let people know through email, social media, or word of mouth. Thanks so much to our community for the way you make the CU Pride Fest possible!
