Uniting Pride of Champaign County is looking to expand our Board of Directors. Interested in volunteering to help this organization grow to the next level? Then read on:
About UP:
Uniting Pride of Champaign County was founded in 2009 as an organization to advocate for the equality, wellness, and visibility of the LGBTQ+ communities in Champaign County. Since then, we have been active in the community through support and social groups, community-building events, educational workshops, local advocacy, resource referrals, and more.
The Board has worked diligently for the last few years to build financial and operational stability and the organization is now reaping the benefits of that work. We’re on the cusp of some major growth and would love to expand our Board to help steer the ship through our next phase.
What are we looking for?
We’re looking for people with a deep passion for LGBTQ+ advocacy and philanthropy who get energized by collaborative work and want to help Champaign County be an even safer and more welcoming place.
You’d be a great fit to join our board if you’re someone who enjoys engaging with people across a diverse community, wants to know your work is contributing to the greater good and making a difference, has great attention to detail, enjoys the calm that being organized can bring to the work environment and work relationships, likes to find the most efficient ways to do things, has a hunger to learn what you don’t yet know, is willing to work through difficult conversations in a respectful and kind way, and has a commitment to open communication and transparency.
Specific work:
The Board of Directors term of service is March to February each year, but while we are expanding the board, we are accepting new members on a rolling basis.
The Board meets the second Wed of each month at 6:30pm in person at the UP Center office. Beyond that meeting, each member is expected to take on at least one area of focus, either in an officer position, or by serving on a committee. Committees we currently have or are in the process of building are: Training, Finance, Fundraising and Outreach, and Youth & Family, but we’re open to new ideas for others.
Volunteering to serve on our board is not a casual commitment, but instead one that involves devoting a chunk of time and energy to stewarding this organization. Not everyone has the time to serve on a board. We welcome volunteers who want to be engaged in a smaller capacity and you can sign up for that by clicking HERE.
If you are interested in putting consistent time and energy into driving the real work UP does, we’re happy to discuss the commitment level and work in more detail with anyone who wants to. Feel free to reach out to set up time to learn more and get all questions answered!
To apply:
Please submit an email to [email protected] telling us why you’d be interested in applying to serve on the Uniting Pride Board of Directors. You may highlight any relevant experience as a volunteer or leader of other groups or organizations, but experience isn’t necessary to serve in a general capacity. More than anything else, a calling to make a difference and the time to give to that work is what matters, so that’s what we’d like to hear about most. You may send any questions to that email address or a request to set up some time to talk and learn more as well.
We look forward to giving careful consideration to all who apply and thank you for your interest in this important work!
